What leads to rheumatoid arthritis?

RA is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system of the body, usually protect your health by attacking foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses, mistakenly attacks the synovium. As a result, they are thickened with arthritis. The process begins to destroy cartilage and bone in the joints, leading to swelling and pain in and around the joints. But what causes of rheumatoid arthritis that directly result in the mistakenly attack of immune system to body?

Doctors and researchers have not found out the exact answer for this problem. However, there is scientific evidence that it may be a combination of genes and other things. Some studies suggest that infections caused by bacteria or viruses that can cause disease in some people, but so far, they do not know what a virus or some other material.

causes of rheumatoid arthritis

  1. Genes

The important protein for RA is the Human Leukocyte Antigen, also called HLA has been studied that it shared epitope have a greater chance of developing the disease. The site of HLA genes help to control immune responses. This change allows the body to detect a variety of potential threats.

The other genes connected to RA include:

  • STAT4: regulate and activate the immune system
  • TRAF1 and C5: make conditions for chronic inflammation
  • PTPN22: contained during the process of rheumatoid arthritis from progressing to development. However, not everyone with the gene will develop RA, and not all of those conditions have these genes.
  • The “Shared epitope”, or SE, the gene is a strong link with the risk of RA.

causes of rheumatoid arthritis

  1. The environmental behavior

Some behaviors, such as smoking, are considered as the causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis likely. The combination of smoking and SE genes specific genes such as RA makes more likely, and more aggressive when it occurs. Smoking creates some chemistry with citrullination. These chemicals occur much more frequently in people with RA, and they can be part of an RA activation process.

  1. Other factors

Some different factors are proved to lead to the risk of rheumatoid arthritis, including:

  • Bacteria or viruses, which can trigger the development of the disease in personal genes. However, what exact the bacteria or viruses is still an unknown.
  • The ability of body to response to stressful events, such as physical injury or emotional.
  • Obesity increases the likelihood of developing RA.

causes of rheumatoid arthritis

Although the exact causes of rheumatoid arthritis have been unknown, the mentioned things above should avoid if you want to get far away from the risk of RA. We hope that this article is helpful enough for you!
